Friday, February 25, 2011, was the last Friday of February and as each month at 18:00 we found ourselves at the Tower of St. Stephen to do our usual tour together now. Just like the last Friday of February a year ago, when first we start with this initiative.
Last Friday was therefore our first birthday ! After the previous 12 monthly releases, this was the first of a new series, was the thirteenth!
Unfortunately, only 13 were not cycling in to date, but 13 was also the small number of participants in the round on Friday. This fact has given us food for thought. How is it that despite the streets of Ivrea has the impression of seeing a slight increase in people bike, participate in Critical Mass is so very poor?
One reason is undoubtedly to be found in conjunction other interesting events organized simultaneously unfortunately our constricting around and of course to make a choice. But the many new faces that are seen to cycle for Ivrea were not involved in these events were much more likely to just remain quiet at home. Not that you'd expect in a mass participation by all, but probably some of them have also participated in our around if only he had known . The impression is then that we lack a bit 'of advertising . This blog and our mailing list to reach those who are already quite aware, however, who already Ivrea Critical Mass, and that already participate when they can. What we lack is an effective communication with others, to citizenship, to the many who use the bike in the city but who do not yet know us.
One thing we noticed is that during our bike ride in the group there are often people who ask us who we are and what we are doing, because it is clear that non siamo in bici tutti in gruppo per caso, ma non è evidente la motivazione. A questo cercheremo di provvedere fin dalla prossima volta: chi può si metta sulla bici qualche cartello con la scritta "Massa Critica Ivrea" e altri slogan che aiutino a capire.
Per quel che riguarda invece la pubblicità fatta prima, quella per invitare alla partecipazione, fin da quando un anno fa abbiamo lanciato l'iniziativa abbiamo distribuito in giro tanti volantini, li abbiamo attaccati sulle bici che vedevamo parcheggiate in giro, sui pali della luce e sui semafori, sulle bacheche in giro per Ivrea. Oggi questa attività è diventata faticosa per quei pochi, sempre i soliti, che si sono sforzati di portarla avanti fino ad ora. It is therefore time to help him, and even find other ways to promote .
